In case of a health crisis in the state / a big decision can be taken in the state: Gujarat High Court
The High Court has questioned the government’s performance in managing Covid-19 in the state. The entire case will be heard today by a bench headed by the Chief Justice. The High Court, while filing the sumo, observed that for the last five-six days, news of deteriorating health in the state was filling the pages of newspapers. The news draws attention to the state of serious matters which cannot be ignored. Now is the time for the court to intervene.
These press reports are depicting the real situation in the state. The state of Gujarat is now on the brink of a medical crisis and the situation is likely to spiral out of control if no effective action is taken soon. It further observed that despite the passage of five days, no significant change in the state’s condition has yet been observed. Even today people in the state are suffering from unimaginable hardships and difficulties and the situation is spiraling out of the control of the state health department.
Existing health facilities have collapsed and people are struggling to get basic medicines like testing, hospital beds, availability of ICUs as well as oxygen and remedies. Significantly, on April 6, the High Court also held a hearing on Corona’s condition. The High Court expressed concern during the hearing of a bench headed by the Chief Justice.
Expressing concern over how the medical condition is being managed in the state, he also urged to take necessary steps to improve the condition. Also gave instructions for weekend curfew and lockdown.
