Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar on Wednesday launched the Minikit program for distribution of high yielding seeds of pulses and oilseeds.
In this program mini kits are made available by national agencies like Seed Corporation, NAFED and Gujarat State Seed Corporation.
It is funded by the National Food Security Mission of the Central Government.
The ‘mini kit’ program of seeds was started by Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar with the distribution of high yielding seeds of pulses and oilseeds to the farmers, an official statement said.
Regarding the program, Tomar said that various activities are underway under the National Food Security Mission to increase the production as well as productivity of pulses and oilseeds in collaboration with the Center and the states.
Production of pulses and oilseeds increased
From the year 2014-15, renewed attention is being paid to increase the production of pulses and oilseeds, said the Ministry of Agriculture.
Oilseed production increased from 2.751 tonnes in 2014-15 to 3.657 crore tonnes in 2020-21.
Thus, the production of pulses increased from 1.715 million tonnes to 2.555 million tonnes during the period.
Delivery will be by June 15th
Seed distribution under the Mini Kit program will continue till June 15, 2021.
So that farmers can get seeds before planting kharif crop.
A total of 20,27,318 mini kits of pulses, more than 8 lakh mini kits of soybean and 74,000 mini kits of groundnut will be provided free of cost to farmers under the National Food Security Mission.
